For children with chronic kidney disease that progresses to end-stage kidney disease, a kidney transplant can be life-changing. With a healthy kidney, there is no need for dialysis and symptoms like weakness, fatigue, and poor food intake can vastly improve. Children feel better in general, which leads to increased activity, better school attendance, and fewer dietary restrictions.
At Children’s Renal Center, we can guide you and your child through the kidney transplant process. We work closely with the Renal Transplant Program at Medical City Dallas to prepare your child for transplantation; they have a multi-disciplinary team consisting of transplant surgeons, psychologists, nurses, dieticians, social workers, financial coordinators, administrative staff, and child life specialists. After transplantation, our nephrologists will regularly see your child to monitor progress.
